To get a better understanding of the people you�re talking with, do you ever encourage them to research their strengths and weaknesses through temperament and character surveys?

You can. There are values assessments and things of that nature you can take people through. For me, I'm much happier if I sit down and talk to somebody in person, one on one. I've done so much work on reading people that at this point there's no substitute for being face to face and having a conversation and letting that conversation get out of the interview. I like to be very casual in my interviews, and I like to get very friendly so that the guard comes down and I start hearing the real story.
